Chef Kay was born in Southside Jamaica Queens and raised in various areas in Brooklyn, NY. Growing up in a community that suffered from insufficient resources didn’t stop Chef Kay from taking lemons and making lemonade. What started as a side hustle selling snacks in middle school, progressed to selling $6-$12 meals in highschool which then slowly but shortly became Chef Kay’s passion. After graduating from high school early at the age of 16, Chef Kay decided to quit both of her jobs as a cashier and barista to focus on college. While in college Kay joined the EGL pud program where she was able to create a business plan and enhance what the public recognizes today as Kayonce’s Enterprises Inc.
Beyond providing exceptional catering services, Chef Kay and friends have curated a philanthropic event titled “Friendsgiving” in which we service the underserved in less affluent communities; as it is our mission to abolish food scarcity worldwide. Statistics reveal that an estimated 1.2 million (14.6%) New York City residents were food insecure as of 2022; with the Bronx having the leading rate at 19.7%, followed by Brooklyn at 15.5%, Manhattan at 13.6%, Queens at 12.1% and Staten Island at 10.1% of the population suffering from food scarcity.
If you would like to partner with what God is doing through our ministry, whether it be through volunteering, supporting monetarily, or donating your product(s) and services for our 6th annual Friendsgiving we encourage you to contact us utilizing either of the provided forums below. We look forward to hearing from you Friends!
With one in every five individuals being negatively impacted by food insecurity we have been dedicated to ensuring each home, primarily, African American and Latino homes not only have access to food but food that bears nutritional value. For the past four years Kayonce’s Citchen has partnered with volunteers, vendors, small business owners, Dj’s and more recently local super markets to not only ensure each individual has access to hot food, canned goods, fresh produce, and turkeys but also coats and personal protective equipment (as per COVID-19).
